May 11, 2021

Preparations are underway at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC), one of the main venues for the mass national vaccination campaign from June.

A team lead by Dr. Mohammed bin Saif al Hosni, Undersecretary, Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, and Maitha bint Saif al Mahrouqi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, visited the OCEC to oversee the preparations, including installation of the necessary equipment.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said administering the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine would be postponed until June 2021.

The available vaccines will be given to the high diploma students prior to their final examinations.

As of May 5, over 72,000 people have received the second dose vaccine.

The ministerial committee on immunization has said that more than one million doses of vaccines will be received in June, and the number of vaccinated people will reach 1.5 million by the end of June, including new target groups.

The committee said that the target groups include those over the age of 45, pilgrims, citizens of Musandam Governorate, frontline staff including health workers and employees in government institutions, Royal Oman Police, Sultan’s Armed Forces, higher education institutions, educational staff, and Grade 12 students in schools, employees of vital sectors such as oil and gas sector, ports, airports, and private sector institutions.

The team explained that the deployment of vaccines would take place through the opening of vaccination centres in all governorates of the Sultanate, including the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center, which is currently being prepared for this purpose, sports complexes in the Governorate of Muscat, and schools and sports complexes in other governorates.

The committee pointed to the formation of mobile teams to immunize all workers in government institutions and to provide Covid-19 vaccines to the private sector through clinics in large companies and in private health institutions licensed to administer the vaccine.
