Low pressure trough to continue for three days

April 29, 2021

Weather analysis by the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre indicates that a trough of low pressure (Al Khair trough) will affect the sultanate from Thursday to Saturday.

The centre said isolated rains are expected in most of the governorates.

Chances of rains and thundershowers accompanied with downdraught winds and hail are expected over the Governorate of Musandam, it added.

Wet conditions have been forecast for the sultanate in the next three days with temperatures also expected to drop from current levels. There are chances of rising dust in open places.

The sea state will be moderate with waves reaching a maximum height of 2.5m.

On Wednesday, heavy rains hit some areas, including Wadi Sahtanin in the wilayat of Rustaq in South Batinah, Sohar in North Batinah and the wilayat of Al Hamra in Dakhliyah.

The Civil Aviation Authority has advised everyone to exercise caution during rains as wadis overflow, and to check the sea state before going for sailing.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources also called on farmers, livestock breeders and beekeepers to take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their livestock and beehives, and to keep them away from the valleys' streams, and not to leave beehives in low-lying areas as a result of the sultanate’s airspace affected by low pressure.
