Campaign held to clean up 4.5sqkm in SEZAD port
Muscat – The Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) organised a clean-up campaign under the slogan ‘Together for a Sustainable Environment in Duqm’ on Wednesday. The campaign aimed to remove waste from the multi-purpose fishing port in the zone.
More than 40 volunteers from a number of companies operating in the zone participated in the campaign conducted in association with Al Nahda, Sager Environmental Solutions and Marsa Duqm Investment Company.
Members of marine crew of fishing vessels and boats anchored in the port also participated in the campaign covering an area of 4.5sqkm.
“The campaign focused on collecting plastic waste stuck in the port basin caused by waves and some fishing activities,” said Marwa bint Hamdoun al Hashemiyah, environmental inspector and head of the environmental awareness team in SEZAD’s Environmental Control Department.
She informed that clean-up campaigns, as well as environmental awareness and education programmes, will continue throughout the year.
“These programmes are in partnership with community members and institutions operating in SEZAD,” she added.
