CPA campaigns to ensure availability of cement in Oman
Muscat – The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has launched a campaign in all governorates in its efforts to monitor the availability of cement in local markets.
The campaign started with CPA’s inspection team in the Market Control Department in the wilayat of Buraimi conducting inspection visits to check availability of cement and building material in shops on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) has announced a series of measures to ensure adequate supply of cement in the domestic market.
As part of the measures, it has sought a waiver of customs duty on cement imports to encourage shipments from overseas markets. Additionally, MoCIIP will work with ports, including Sultan Qaboos Port and Suwaiq Port, to ensure speedy clearance of imported cement.
The ministry also will facilitate direct import of cement, open new markets, and work to maintain the stability of cement prices in local markets. Additionally, it pledged to facilitate the licensing and establishment of new cement plants in several governorates.
MoCIIP also called on local cement manufacturers to increase production.
