November 16, 2021

Muscat – Muscat National Development and Investment Company (Asaas) has started enabling works for construction at the Al Hafa waterfront project and a traditional heritage market in the wilayat of Salalah, Dhofar governorate. The project is expected to start full operations in the fall of 2023.

Al Hafa waterfront is vital to Salalah and is one of the most important and popular tourist attractions in Dhofar.

A statement issued by Asaas said, ‘The company has started construction work to develop the waterfront in the Al Hafa area on an area of more than 60,000sqm. It has also appointed the main contractor for construction of the heritage market.’

The project features a heritage souq, developed as an alternative to the current souq, reflecting local architectural design elements. It will also house several small and medium enterprises.
The general master plan to develop the area includes provision of parking spaces for visitors to the market as well as Al Hafa beach. More facilities will be implemented in successive stages.

Ahmed Salem al Busaidi, chairman of the Board of Directors of Asaas, said, “The company started the preliminary work for the project, including leveling the land and preparing infrastructure for the site in May. The commercial identity of the project is being designed. It will be announced at a later stage.”

He added that while full operations are expected to start in the fall of 2023, partial operations will begin in 2022. Efforts are on to implement the project according to a planned schedule.

“We affirm the continuity of our strategic partnership with the government sector to achieve a common national goal in advancing the tourism sector and making the sultanate a popular tourist destination for all. I thank all concerned parties, including the Office of the Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar and Dhofar Municipality, for their cooperation and support to implement this project,” Busaidi said.
